Street Kids Direct is a global, volunteer-run charity dedicated to helping vulnerable children and youth living on the streets or at high risk of street life. They wanted to introduce technology to track medical and educational records, enhancing their outreach, prevention, and mentoring programs. Their mission is to ensure no child has to live on the streets, with 100% of donations directly supporting their projects.

Operating since 2001, Street Kids direct were successfully helping children in Guatemala get off the streets and establish better prospects. But surely there was a way to scale this successful model in Guatemala and beyond?
As with many organisations, reliance of information on paper and notes left a huge risk in terms of records management and access to the important information related to the children.
Novecom have been working with Street Kids Direct since 2021 to identify and deploy practical technologies to make their work more effective and ultimately improve the lives of the affected children.
Novecom are responsible for the design, development, support and roadmap of the systems to support the children services.
The solution consisted of designing a combination of desktop and mobile based apps, each one designed for the specific use cases being considered.
Desktop applications are for the management of the records and running of the charity with iPad based apps used for the administration and support of the children when at the educational centres.
Handheld mobile devices are used by the street support teams to record and access up-to-date records for the children, be it in an alley in the backstreets of Gautemala or Hospital for reviewing and adding to medical records.
The system continues to increase its functionality, bringing in new features and has now been successfully deployed beyond Guatemala into Honduras.
Throughout 2024, we will be expanding the roll-out with Duncan and his team, beyond South America into other regions which have a similar to support street children.
It's a great project to work on, and we are proud to be able to make a difference to such a meaningful cause.
